Abstract: ABSTRACT TITLE: ADAPTIVE SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MULTI-ANGULAR 3D RECONSTRUCTION USING OPTICAL IMAGE DATA The invention discloses an adaptive computational system and method for multi-angular three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction and characterization of orbital debris from two-dimensional (2D) optical image data. The system includes a processor, memory, and a reconstruction engine comprising interconnected modules that process multi-view image frames captured at known azimuth and elevation angles with fixed camera offsets. It performs preprocessing, spatio-temporal feature extraction, and stable feature tracking across angularly displaced observations to form robust feature correspondences. These correspondences are used in multi-view geometry estimation, enforcing epipolar and geometric constraints to recover 3D structure via triangulation and reprojection error minimization. The reconstructed sparse model is refined into dense point clouds, meshes, or volumetric representations through fusion and optimization. A characterization module extracts physical and kinematic parameters such as size, shape, orientation, rotational dynamics, and motion behaviour. The system enables robust reconstruction of non-cooperative, tumbling debris under varying illumination for space situational awareness and analysis.
