MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611115535 A) filed by Noida Institute Of Engineering And Technology Niet on September 26, 2026, for Adaptive Spray Cooling System With Engineered Surface Textures And Regime-Aware Control For Thermal Management.
Inventors include Dr. Anant Prakash Agrawal; and Atul Ranjan.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: An adaptive spray cooling thermal management system (100) comprising a spray nozzle assembly (110) with piezoelectric-actuated nozzle elements (112) for generating coolant droplets of selectable diameter and velocity, an engineered surface module (120) with a substrate (122) bearing hierarchical micro-pillar and nano- ridge surface features (124) coated with a wicking layer (126), a thermal sensing unit (130) with a temperature sensor array (132), infrared thermal imaging sensor (134), and surface condition detector (136), and a control unit (140) executing a regime-aware feedback control loop (150). The loop includes a spreading regime classifier (152) identifying wetting, transition, or Leidenfrost conditions, a predictive mapping module (156) forecasting regime transitions, and a regime-dependent PID controller (154) that pre-emptively adjusts spray parameters. The hierarchical surfaces delay Leidenfrost onset while the adaptive control leverages this extended window, achieving sustained high-efficiency cooling.
