MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611069815 A) filed by Namrata Gaur on June 03, 2026, for Adaptive Smart Atraumatic Self Retaining Retractor System For Cardiothoracic And Vascular Surgery.
Inventors include Namrata Gaur; and Rikki.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an adaptive smart atraumatic self-retaining retractor system for cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. The system comprises segmented expandable retractor blades, a hydro-pneumatic expansion mechanism, an integrated pressure sensor network, a control and feedback unit, and a stabilization mechanism including magnetic or micro-anchor fixation. The segmented blades conform to anatomical structures and distribute retraction forces uniformly to minimize localized pressure, tissue trauma, rib fractures, and nerve injury. The hydro-pneumatic mechanism enables gradual and controlled expansion, while embedded sensors continuously monitor tissue pressure and transmit real-time data to the control unit for safe adjustment of retraction forces. The system further incorporates bioadaptive atraumatic contact surfaces and a modular convertible framework adaptable for rib spreading, sternal retraction, and valve exposure procedures. The invention provides stable, hands-free, multi-plane surgical exposure with improved precision, reduced postoperative complications, and compatibility with open, minimally invasive, and robotic-assisted surgical procedures.
