Abstract: The present invention discloses an adaptive sliding mode control system (100) for a DC-DC buck converter (130) integrated within a photovoltaic-based DC microgrid. The system (100) comprises a photovoltaic module (110) connected to a boost converter (112) controlled by an MPPT controller (114) using Perturb and Observe algorithm, a battery storage unit (120) maintaining a 48 V DC bus (122), and a buck converter (130) stepping down voltage to 19 V for sensitive loads (140). A sliding mode controller (150) regulates the buck converter output using a sliding surface (152) defined by voltage error, its derivative, and its integral as state variables with tuned sliding coefficients. A PWM generator (154) produces switching pulses by comparing control and ramp voltages. The system is validated on a Typhoon HIL platform (160), achieving 50 ms settling time and 0.06 steady-state error, outperforming conventional PI control.
