Abstract: ABSTRACT An adaptive safety control system (100) includes sensor assembly (102), control unit (104) communicatively coupled to sensor assembly (102) and configured to receive sensor data, perform sensor fusion analysis on sensor data, detect descent event based on sensor fusion analysis, determine one or more descent parameters including at least one of descent velocity, trajectory, acceleration, impact severity, or subject mass, and generate one or more control signals based on one or more descent parameters. An adaptive impact dissipation module (108) communicatively coupled to control unit (104) wherein adaptive impact dissipation module (108) comprises plurality of tunable resilient elements (110), plurality of adaptive damping elements (112) configured to provide variable damping characteristics, and one or more programmable metamaterial structures (114) configured to selectively modify deformation behaviour to regulate dissipation of impact energy associated with the descent event.
