MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641101850 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on August 24, 2026, for Adaptive Roadway Energy Harvesting System Using Predictive Wave- Guiding Configuration.

Inventors include Porkodi; Mohammed Kaif K; Gowtham S; and Pravin G.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: A roadway energy harvesting system (100) includes one or more piezoelectric transducers (114) embedded within a roadway (104), one or more upstream sensors (106A, 106B) configured to detect an approaching vehicle (102) and acquire vehicle information, a mechanically reconfigurable wave-guiding structure (110), one or more actuators (112), a memory (108B), and one or more processors (108A). The one or more processors (108A) determine a predicted mechanical excitation profile based on the acquired vehicle information and, prior to arrival of the approaching vehicle (102), select a wave-guiding configuration from a plurality of wave-guiding configurations. The one or more actuators (112) configure the mechanically reconfigurable wave-guiding structure (110) to direct transient mechanical stress waves toward one or more predetermined energy harvesting regions. The one or more piezoelectric transducers (114) convert the directed transient mechanical stress waves into electrical energy. The one or more processors (108A) obtain harvesting data, determine a prediction error, and update a subsequent wave-guiding configuration for a subsequent vehicle loading event. FIG. 1
