Abstract: The present invention relates to an adaptive quantum password authentication system and method (100) for securing password-based authentication against classical and quantum-assisted brute-force attacks. The system (100) comprises an authentication pipeline (102), a risk evaluation engine (103), an adaptive authentication engine (104), a progressive authentication state manager (105), and a password verification engine (106). The progressive authentication state is updated according to authentication behaviour and is used to generate an adaptive computational workload by dynamically adjusting processor cost, memory allocation, authentication rounds, random memory accesses, and cache pressure before password verification. The adaptive workload progressively increases following repeated failed authentication attempts while remaining bounded by predefined maximum limits to maintain system availability. Upon successful authentication, the progressive authentication state is reset. The invention improves resistance to large-scale password-guessing attacks by reducing authentication throughput for malicious users while maintaining efficient authentication for legitimate users.
