Abstract: Disclosed is a portable resuscitation apparatus, and a method and computer-readable medium for controlling it. A motorised actuator on a support frame drives a compression element against a subject's chest. A force-and-depth sensor lets a processing unit derive the subject's thoracic compliance, and the unit modulates the actuator force for successive compressions in dependence on the compliance to reach a target depth, so the force suits the individual subject. Integrated electrocardiogram and pulse-oximetry sensors let the unit detect a return of spontaneous circulation and suspend actuation in direct response, avoiding a compression- free pulse-check interval. A positioning sensor inhibits actuation until the element is aligned over the sternum, a motion artefact is filtered from the signals, and the signals are streamed to a remote station, providing adaptive, monitored and connected mechanical resuscitation in one portable unit.
