Abstract: This paper discloses a patient monitoring system that employs smart wearables and machine learning technology for alert generation. The patient monitoring system is configured to identify a monitored patient and record patient metadata such as age, disease conditions, medication taken, allergies, body status, genetic background, and type of ward. Physical data may be recorded by physical sensors in hardware mode or may be simulated using monitoring inputs in software mode. These data are then analyzed at the backend by computing an early warning score and evaluating the results with a machine learning-based alert assessment process in order to prioritize the alerts raised. In accordance with the invention, the system can operate in a general ward mode and a critical ward mode. This provides an opportunity for differentiated treatment based on the operating environment. In general ward mode, the priority of an alert also depends on the proximity of caregivers to ensure that alert delivery is context aware. Other features of the present system include remote caregiver interface including dashboard and nurse mobile app, camera-based observation of patients, attendance tracking, storage of alert logs, discharge management, and wearable-band management.
