Inventors include Ms. Janani V; Mr. Selvaprakash M; Dr. Karthikeyan J; and Dr. Krupakar Parthasarathy.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: A portable vacuum-assisted forensic trace evidence collection system is disclosed, comprising a handheld housing incorporating a suction nozzle, a cartridge holder, a removable and interchangeable evidence collection cartridge, an internal filtration system, and a vacuum generation assembly comprising an electric motor and fan powered by a rechargeable battery. A pressure control system comprising a pressure sensor and an electronic controller regulates motor speed to maintain a user- selected suction level suitable for a given category of trace evidence, such as hair, fibres, dust, soil, paint flakes, glass fragments, or biological material. The evidence collection cartridge captures and isolates collected evidence within an independent chamber, and upon removal is sealed by a tamper-evident closure that provides a visible indication of unauthorized opening. A plurality of interchangeable cartridge variants, including dry, biological, liquid, and mixed evidence cartridges, permit the same device to be adapted for different evidence categories, while rapid cartridge replacement without disassembly minimizes cross-contamination between separately collected evidence samples and preserves the integrity of forensic trace evidence throughout collection, storage, and transport.
