Inventors include J. Jasonraj; M. Aiswarya Nandhini; S. Chitra; M. Dhivyaa; and A. Jayasri.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an adaptive gamified surface electromyography (sEMG) biofeedback system for muscle rehabilitation, particularly for rehabilitation following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. The system acquires sEMG signals from a target muscle region, such as the vastus medialis, during prescribed rehabilitation exercises. A processing unit processes the acquired sEMG signals to determine muscle activation and contraction duration and provides the processed information to an interactive game interface. The muscle activation information is mapped to game actions, enabling the patient to interact with visual targets or challenges through actual muscle activity. Successful achievement of a prescribed activation level and hold duration is used to validate exercise performance and provide real-time feedback. The system further records repetitions, activation levels, contraction duration and session performance, and adaptively modifies game difficulty based on measured performance. The invention provides an interactive and adaptive approach for supporting muscle re-education, exercise engagement and rehabilitation progress monitoring.
