MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641108539 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on September 10, 2026, for Adaptive Exoskeletal Armor System For Ballistic Impact Response And Soldier Monitoring.

Inventors include P Ushapreethi; Deepak Kumar. D; Pachaiyappan C; and Sabarishwaran J.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: An adaptive exoskeletal armor system (100) for protecting and monitoring a soldier includes a wearable exoskeletal armor structure having a ballistic protective layer, a distributed piezoelectric sensor mesh (202), a plurality of magnetorheological (MR) fluid armor cells (204A), electromagnets (204B), a wearable Body Area Network (106) having biometric sensors (206), a processor (208A), a memory (208B), a GPS receiver (110A), a UWB transceiver (110B), an INS (110C), and a wireless mesh transceiver (112). The processor (208A) determines an impact location based on a detected ballistic impact, selectively controls an electromagnet (204B) to alter a stiffness of a corresponding MR fluid armor cell (204A), determines a condition of the soldier based on the impact and physiological parameters, determines a soldier position using GPS, UWB, and/or INS, and causes the wireless mesh transceiver (112) to transmit information associated with the condition and position of the soldier.
