Abstract: Adaptive automotive air intake flood protection valve with pressure responding shear thickening fluid sealing Abstract: An AI-assisted automotive air-intake flood protection valve comprising an intake housing, a rotatable disc-type shut-off member, an actuator, an EPDM peripheral sealing element and a flexible sealed membrane or cavity containing a shear-thickening fluid. The actuator moves the disc between an open position, in which the airflow passage is substantially unobstructed, and a closed position in which the disc engages the EPDM sealing element. A hydrostatic pressure sensor is positioned at a water-facing intake-entry side, and water-level, wheel-motion and valve-position signals may additionally be acquired. A controller processes sensed information and an AI/ML assessment module evaluates hydrostatic pressure, pressure rise rate and vehicle-state parameters against experimentally characterised valve and sealing performance to generate a traversability classification or risk value. The classification may be communicated to an engine control module or driver display and used for protective valve closure. The STF- containing membrane provides additional support to the sealing region under pressure-induced deformation.
