MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641106114 A) filed by Sri Eshwar College Of Engineering on September 03, 2026, for Active Evaporative Cooling System For Battery Thermal Management.
Inventors include Naveenprabhu V; and Devapprakash A.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an active evaporative cooling system for battery thermal management for use in electric and hybrid vehicle battery applications. The system comprises a battery mounting arrangement housing one or more Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery cells, a thermally insulated enclosure configured to guide airflow around the battery surface, a forced-air circulation fan configured to draw ambient air through the enclosure, and a moisture retaining cellulose fibre pad positioned at the air inlet, configured to pre-cool incoming air through evaporation before it is directed across the battery. The battery may be connected to an electrical load, such as a DC motor, to simulate discharge conditions and generate representative operating heat. A temperature sensor positioned near the battery continuously monitors temperature during operation. The system further comprises a charge controller and regulated power supply configured to regulate battery charging and protect against overcharging. By integrating evaporative air pre-cooling, guided forced-air circulation, thermal insulation, and continuous temperature monitoring within a single low-cost, compact arrangement, the invention achieves improved battery temperature reduction relative to conventional forced-air cooling, while avoiding the cost, weight, and maintenance complexity associated with liquid or thermoelectric cooling systems, thereby enhancing battery safety, efficiency, and operating life in electric vehicle applications.
