Abstract: ABSTRACT ACID HYDROLYZED CHROME TANNED LEATHER SHAVINGS REINFORCED CEMENT MORTAR FLOOR TILES A method (100) for valorizing chrome tanned leather shavings comprises collecting (102) chrome tanned leather shavings from a tannery industry and subjecting (104) the collected chrome tanned leather shavings to sulphuric acid hydrolysis to remove leachable chromium, thereby producing a partially dechromed chrome tanned leather shavings solid and a chromium-rich leachate. The method comprises recovering (106) chromium from the leachate as chromium hydroxide, and washing and drying (108) the dechromed chrome tanned leather shavings to remove residual chemicals. The method comprises cutting (110) the dechromed chrome tanned leather shavings into irregular strips suitable for use as cementitious composite reinforcement, and adding (112) the strips to a cement mortar mixture. The method comprises casting (114) the mixture into moulds and compacting the mixture, and curing (116) the cast tiles under standard curing conditions. (Fig. 1)
