MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621062858 A) filed by Lnct University; Bhopal Lakshmi Narain College Of Technology; Dr. Santosh Kumar Jain; and Ramesh Kumar Aloney on May 18, 2026, for Achieved 35% To 40% Efficiency Materials From Cdse, Znse Photo-Electro Chemical Solar Cells.

Inventors include Dr. Santosh Kumar Jain; and Ramesh Kumar Aloney.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a heterostructured photo-electrochemical solar cell (100) comprising a transparent conducting substrate (110), a nanocrystalline Zinc Selenide buffer layer (120) of thickness 80 to 150 nanometers, a nanocrystalline Cadmium Selenide absorber layer (130) of thickness 200 to 500 nanometers deposited over the buffer layer to form a Type-II heterostructured photo-anode, an aqueous polysulfide redox electrolyte (140), a platinized counter electrode (150), a polymeric sealing gasket (160) and an external load circuit (170) with optional maximum power point tracking. The wide-bandgap ZnSe acts as window and electron-transport layer while narrow-bandgap CdSe acts as the principal absorber. The Type-II band alignment spatially separates photogenerated electrons and holes, suppresses recombination, mitigates photo-corrosion, and yields a solar-to-electrical conversion efficiency in the range of 35 to 40 percent under standard AM 1.5G illumination, significantly higher than conventional II-VI photo-electrochemical solar cells.
