Abstract: A zero-power passive cooling storage system for perishables comprises an insulated storage chamber (14) within a solar-reflective insulating shell (10, 12), an evaporative cooling arrangement (20, 24), a phase-change-material thermal buffer (18), and a sky-facing radiative surface (16). A self-actuating, power-free mode-gate (30) having a humidity- and/or temperature-responsive actuating element (32) opens and closes air or thermal pathways in response to ambient conditions, causing the system to favour the most effective passive cooling pathway and to recharge the phase-change-material buffer at night by radiative cooling. The system maintains sub-ambient cooling across dry and humid conditions and across day and night without any compressor, refrigerant, battery, sensor or electrical power.
