Abstract: A voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) system (100) and method for generating an oscillating signal using VCO system (100) is disclosed. The system (100) includes an inductor-capacitor (LC) circuit (102) having two capacitors (102-1) and a switching element (102-2) that alternately connects the two capacitors (102-1) during positive and negative sub-periods of a single oscillation cycle, a feedback loop (104) having a CMOS comparator circuit (104-1), configured to generate a pseudo square wave signal for controlling duty cycle of the switching element (102-2), a control voltage input (106) coupled to the CMOS comparator circuit (104-1), where the control voltage modulates the duty cycle of the pseudo-square wave, a biasing circuit (108) configured to stabilize the operation of the feedback loop (104) and the LC circuit (102) and a multiplexer (MUX) (110) integrated with the LC circuit (102) for frequency selection based on a reference voltage. The system (100) generates an oscillating signal at an intermediate frequency between two distinct frequencies corresponding to the sub-periods for frequency tuning.
