Abstract: A VERTICAL TRANSIENT LOAD TESTING SYSTEM FOR A REAR AXLE HOUSING ABSTRACT A vertical transient load testing system (100) for a rear axle housing (102) is disclosed. The system (100) comprises a test bench (104) having a fixture (106) to mount the rear axle housing (102) in an inward wheel orientation and to replicate vehicle suspension boundary conditions while permitting axle tube flexure; a plurality of actuators (108) to impart vertical transient loads corresponding to vehicle-induced loading conditions; a plurality of sensors to measure a plurality of parameters associated with the rear axle housing (102); a closed-loop servo- hydraulic control system to receive the plurality of parameters, operate the plurality of actuators (108) in a first control mode comprising to simulate road shock events, or operate the plurality of actuators (108) in a second control mode to maintain boundary condition stability, and determine a fatigue response of the real axle housing obtained during the first control mode and the second control mode.
