The method 200 comprises detecting the folding of a side stand of the vehicle 105, starting a timer 115, receiving and validating a user identification, automatically determining a helmet status by analyzing helmet data and unlocking the vehicle 105 when the user identification is valid, the rider is wearing a helmet and the timer has not expired. If the timer expires, the authentication and helmet status verification is done in manual mode.
