Abstract: The present invention relates to a tube thoracostomy kit for controlled intercostal drainage tube placement. The kit comprises a 10 ml syringe with a 20G aspiration needle having centimeter-wise markings, a cannula of about 8.5 cm length provided with a movable stopper and tightening screw, an insertion needle of about 10 cm length with a sharp tip projecting approximately 1.5 cm beyond the cannula, an intercostal drainage tube having a closed pleural end, side eyes, regular length markings, and external serrations of 0.30– 0.40 mm depth at 1–2 cm intervals, a clip with openings for suturing, arms for holding the tube, and a locking mechanism, and a standard drainage bag. The method involves depth estimation using the aspiration needle, controlled advancement of the cannula and insertion needle assembly, removal of the insertion needle, insertion of the drainage tube through the cannula, removal of the cannula, and fixation of the tube using the clip.
