Abstract: ABSTRACT 5 A TRICOMPONENT SOLVENT SYSTEM, A FILM-FORMING COMPOSITION, A BIODEGRADABLE ACTIVE PACKAGING MATERIAL, AND METHODS THEREOF The present disclosure provides a tricomponent solvent system comprising: (a) thymol; (b) a carboxylic acid selected from citric acid, oxalic acid, or a combination thereof; (c) and water, 10 wherein the thymol and the carboxylic acid are associated through hydrogen bonding. The present disclosure further provides a film-forming composition comprising: (a) a pectin matrix; and (b) the tricomponent solvent system as disclosed herein. Furthermore, the present disclosure provides a biodegradable active packaging film and methods thereof.
