Abstract: A tray ejection system for a portable electronic device is disclosed. The system comprises a tray configured to hold a subscriber identity module (SIM) card, the tray being movably mounted within a housing of the portable electronic device for movement between a closed position and an ejected position. A Morse code reader provided on the device receives a Morse code signal input by a user, which is compared by a controller against at least one authorised Morse code template stored in a memory unit. Upon determining a match, the controller generates an eject command signal, which is received by a motor operatively coupled to the tray. The motor drives the tray from the closed position to the ejected position in response to the eject command signal, thereby ejecting the tray from the housing of the portable electronic device.
