MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641081012 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on July 01, 2026, for A Topical Composition And Method For Preparing Microbial Metabolites Using Staphylococcus Epidermidis Fermentation.
Inventors include Raunak Kumar Das; and Ms. Pavithra Subramani.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure proposes a topical composition (100) and method for preparing microbial metabolites (102) using Staphylococcus epidermidis fermentation, which modulates ultraviolet B (UVB)-induced epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) by regulating epithelial markers and EMT-associated transcription factors in skin cells. The topical composition (100) comprises microbial metabolites (102) and a topically acceptable carrier (104). The topical composition (100) comprises short-chain fatty acid- rich microbial metabolites associated with antioxidant and epithelial modulatory activity. The topical composition (100) is configured as dermatological formulations, which include creams, gels, lotions, serums, and topical skin preparations. The topical composition (100) is suitable for ultraviolet-induced skin protection, epithelial restoration, and photodamage-associated skin restoration. The microbiome-derived dermatological composition (100) is suitable for modulation of ultraviolet B-induced cellular alterations associated with epithelial–mesenchymal transition in skin cells.
