MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611099041 A) filed by Chitkara University on August 17, 2026, for A Thermosensitive In-Situ Gelling Luliconazole Liposomes For Localized Topical Antifungal Delivery.

Inventors include Dr. Amrinder Singh; and Sinchani Mandal.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a thermosensitive in-situ gelling liposomal composition for topical delivery of luliconazole. Luliconazole is incorporated with phosphatidylcholine 90G, cholesterol and Vitamin E TPGS into liposomal vesicles prepared by thin-film hydration using ethanol. The vesicles are hydrated and dispersed in an aqueous methyl cellulose phase containing sodium chloride, which modifies the gelation temperature toward physiological temperature. The composition remains as a comparatively low-viscosity dispersion at room temperature and transforms into a semisolid gel upon warming. The formulation thereby combines liposomal drug incorporation with temperature-triggered site retention. The phosphatidylcholine-based vesicles facilitate luliconazole incorporation and skin permeation, while the methyl cellulose gel matrix reduces runoff and provides an additional diffusion barrier. The disclosed composition provides controlled luliconazole release, increased localized skin retention, enhanced bioadhesion and antifungal activity while maintaining topical dermal compatibility.
