Abstract: [056] The present invention relates to a thermoelectric conversion system having layered junction optimization modules for improving conversion of heat energy into electrical energy. The system includes a heat receiving assembly, a heat rejection assembly, a plurality of thermoelectric conversion cells, and layered junction optimization modules arranged at thermal junctions of the thermoelectric conversion cells. Each layered junction optimization module includes a heat receiving layer, a thermal impedance grading layer, an electrical carrier alignment layer, a thermoelectric conversion layer, a compliant pressure stabilization layer, and an electrical collection layer. The thermal impedance grading layer improves heat flux distribution and reduces thermal discontinuity. The electrical carrier alignment layer reduces carrier scattering and contact resistance. The compliant pressure stabilization layer maintains uniform interfacial pressure during thermal cycling. Junction state sensing elements and a hardware load matching circuit may be provided to stabilize electrical extraction under variable heat source conditions. The invention improves thermal gradient utilization, electrical output stability, mechanical durability, and efficiency of solid-state thermoelectric energy conversion.
