MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621099308 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Gandhinagar on August 17, 2026, for A Tactile System For Facilitating Surface Perception.

Inventors include Saha, Biswajit; and Vaishnav, Kosha Navnit.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT A TACTILE SYSTEM FOR FACILITATING SURFACE PERCEPTION The present disclosure discloses a tactile system for facilitating surface perception. The tactile system (100) comprises a sensing unit (101) configured to abut a surface to sense a set of parameters corresponding to the topology of the surface. A control unit (102) having a converter (1021) configured to convert sensed signals to a set of sensed values, a repository (1022) configured to store a set of predefined threshold values corresponding to a set of predefined surface categories, and a set of classification rules. A classifier (1023) is configured to fetch the set of predefined threshold values from the repository (1022) and compare the set of sensed values with the set of predefined threshold values, using the set of classification rules, to classify and predict the type of the surface abutted. A display unit (103) is configured to display the type of the predicted surface.
