MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641110956 A) filed by Krupanidhi Degree College; and Lakshmi Maganahalli Rajendranath on September 16, 2026, for A System For Smart Shopping Basket With Real-Time Expiry And Chemical Safety Detection.
Inventor includes Lakshmi Maganahalli Rajendranath.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a smart shopping basket integrating a multi-sensor scanning portal, imaging assembly, product-identifier reader, chemical sensing module, and edge processor for real-time expiry detection and harmful chemical identification. On product presentation, the processor acquires multi-angle images under adaptive illumination, recognises and verifies expiry-related indicia using optical character recognition and product-specific shelf-life rules, and selects a product- appropriate sensing sequence from near-infrared spectroscopy, volatile organic compound sensing, electrochemical, colorimetric, or replaceable analyte-specific cartridge modules. Expiry confidence and chemical-risk confidence are fused to generate acceptance, warning, or rejection outputs with reason codes through display, indicator, audio, or mobile notification. Local calibration, drift compensation, and baseline management reduce false results. Edge processing supports offline operation. An optional segregation compartment separates flagged products. The system provides improved point-of-selection safety screening, reduced false alerts, product- specific chemical risk detection, and real-time consumer protection across retail, pharmacy, and institutional applications.
