Abstract: The present subject matter relates to a system (100) for operating a vehicle (10). The system (100) comprises a control unit (106) communicatively coupled to the prime mover (102). The control unit (106) is configured to: receive load characteristics acting on one or more load receiving components (108) of the vehicle (10) from one or more sensors (110), compare the received load characteristics with a threshold load range, determine an operation mode from a plurality of operation modes of the prime mover (102) based on the comparison, the operation mode comprising at least an assist mode or an overload mode, and operate the prime mover (102) in the determined operation mode. The present subject matter additionally discloses a method (200) for the vehicle (10) in one of a plurality of operating modes including an assist mode and overload mode.
