MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641104421 A) filed by Christ University on August 31, 2026, for A System For Human Survivor Detection Using Aerial Swarm Sensor Fusion And Gesture Command And A Method Thereof.

Inventors include Bhuvana Jayabalan; Philip Mathew; and Jewel Joshy.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a gesture-commanded autonomous aerial robot swarm system for human survivor detection in multi-hazard search-and-rescue operations (200). Hand gestures of the operator are captured (101) and interpreted into discrete high-level mission commands by the gesture-command interpretation module (203), following an adaptive calibration of the operator (202). Upon command, the aerial vehicles disperse to maximise area coverage, converge upon a detected survivor signal, and validate the said signal. Detection of a survivor is achieved by a multi-sensor feature fusion module (205), wherein thermal (208), acoustic (209), visual (210) and chemical (211) sensing modalities are distributed across the vehicles of the swarm, and a survivor is confirmed (206) only upon the agreement of at least two distinct sensing modalities sensed from different vehicles of the swarm, thereby rejecting false-positive sources.
