Abstract: ABSTRACT TITLE: A SYSTEM FOR FIBER LASER INTERFEROMETRY BASED STRESS MEASUREMENT. The present invention relates to a novel non- contact and non-evasive stress measurement procedure for metallic and non-metallic components is introduced for engineering components. Though online stress measurement as part of condition monitoring is followed in critical load bearing structures through strain gauging, non-contact method of it, which is not dependent on material specific sensor, is highly desirable. In the present invention, fibre laser based interferometry is used to measure stress in both metallic and non-metallic component. The invention is devoid of complexities and errors those observed in conventional strain gauge based measurement. Plasticity error, which contributes in gross overestimation of stresses, is also avoided in the present methods. The sensors used in the present system for non-contact measurement not material specific and re-usable. The present methods is thus helpful in using the stress field in entire system comprising of metallic and non-metallic components. Compared to conventional system, the measurement cost per point is also minimized as the sensors are re-usable. (Figure 1)
