Abstract: The present invention relates to a system (100) for distributed automotive compliance and visual exhaust-emission detection. The system includes a plurality of edge units (110), each edge unit including a dashcam (112), an edge processing unit (114), a memory (116), a GPS module (118), an RTC module (120), and a communication interface (122), and a cloud and application layer (130) having a violation database (132) and a review dashboard (134). The edge units (100) acquire road-facing video, obtain video frames, preprocess the video frames, and perform object and scene analysis to detect vehicles, riders, traffic signals, stop lines, lane markings, lane direction, vehicle motion, and road context. Traffic violations and visual exhaust-emission events are determined, temporally validated, converted into evidence packages, and selectively transmitted to the cloud and application layer (130). The cloud and application layer (130) stores the evidence packages and presents event information for authorized remote review.
