Abstract: The present invention relates to a system (100) and method of physical unclonable function (PUF) enabled dual mode security module (SM) capable of generating device-specific fingerprints. It consists of two components: 1) a PUF control circuit (PC), and 2) a delay- based (DC) PUF circuit. The SM can protect devices from hardware-level threats. It also helps to authenticate devices in insecure environments. The security module can be fabricated in an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC). The SM on Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are designed, which are reconfigurable silicon chips. The proposed PUF (100) supports unbalanced routing and enables the security module to be highly portable for integration into existing FPGA-enabled environments. [Fig 4]
