Abstract: ABSTRACT A SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR WIND PROFILE RETRIEVAL FROM SINGLE DOPPLER WEATHER RADAR The invention relates to meteorological radar signal processing, and more particularly to retrieval of atmospheric wind profiles from single Doppler weather radar observations. Disclosed is a system and method in which Doppler measurements including radial velocity, reflectivity, azimuth, elevation, and range are preprocessed by clutter suppression, velocity dealiasing, and coordinate transformation, then segmented into selectable volumetric analysis layers. For each layer, a Volume Velocity Processing regression design matrix is formed under a locally linear wind field assumption, and multicollinearity metrics including condition number and variance inflation factor are evaluated. A support vector machine classifier screens layers as valid or invalid before inversion, excluding unstable layers from further processing. Valid layers are solved by a ridge-regularized least squares Volume Velocity Processing inversion using singular value decomposition, followed by outlier removal, secondary regression refinement, and reduced chi-square quality control, thereby producing robust validated wind profile outputs for real-time operational Level-3 radar products.
