Abstract: A system and method for weed detection and classification detect a candidate region within a digital image and isolate it (213, 215, 217) as an isolated plant image, in place of transmitting the image. A classification and a confidence value are extracted (219) from the isolated image, and a data payload consisting of the classification and the confidence value is transmitted, in place of the image, to a remote server (103) hosting a language processing service, via a network interface (205). Advisory content generated by the server (103) is received and rendered, via an output interface (209), in each of a plurality of languages. Transmission of the payload, in place of the image, achieves a reduced bandwidth, memory requirement, response time, and computational requirement relative to transmitting the image or executing the language processing service locally (201) FIG.1B
