Abstract: A SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR VERSIONED CID INDEXING OF ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORDS USING BLOCKCHAIN AND IPFS The invention relates to health informatics, distributed storage, and blockchain-based record management, and discloses a system, method, and non-transitory computer readable medium for storing electronic medical records off-chain in an InterPlanetary File System storage layer while registering on-chain only patient-linked Content Identifiers generated as CIDi = H(Serialize(EMRi)), where H is SHA-256. An application layer creates and serializes medical records, associates a patient identifier with a blockchain address, uploads records to IPFS, and retrieves prior records after authentication. A blockchain layer, preferably an Ethereum-compatible Solidity smart contract, maintains a mapping of patient addresses to one or more Content Identifiers and appends each new or modified record as a distinct entry with optional version information, without overwriting earlier references. The arrangement advances existing systems by reducing on-chain storage, preserving auditable version history, and enabling efficient retrieval of longitudinal medical records.
