Abstract: A tongue-operated powered wheelchair navigation system with obstacle detection comprises a tongue sensor module (10) with one or more touch sensors for capturing distinct tongue gestures, an embedded processing unit (20) based on an Arduino Uno R3, and a motor control unit (30) utilizing a dual H-bridge L293D driver to control DC gear motors (40). The system further includes a power supply subsystem (50) with a 12V rechargeable battery and DC-DC converter, and an obstacle detection module (60) employing an infrared sensor configured to detect obstacles and override directional commands as necessary. The invention, applicable in assistive mobility devices, integrates robust sensor calibration, signal filtering, and debouncing techniques to ensure reliable performance and near real-time processing for safe wheelchair navigation.
