Abstract: ABSTRACT A SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR STRUCTURED PLANNING AND SHOT DERIVATION The present invention relates to a system (102) for structured planning and automatic shot derivation in virtual and augmented environments. The system (102) comprises a receiving module (210), coupled with a processor (204), The receiving module (210) receives user inputs for creating a hierarchical project structure including a film entity, at least one sequence entity, and at least one scene entity linked in a nested relationship. An enforcing module (212) maintains structured association between the entities. An authoring module (214) instantiates heterogeneous entities within a three-dimensional environment. An assigning module (216) assigns temporal parameters to the instantiated entities on a unified timeline. A generating module (218) detects activation intervals of camera entities defined on the unified timeline and automatically segments the timeline into discrete shot intervals, thereby deriving structured shot breakdowns without manual shot definition.
