MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611099453 A) filed by Graphic Era Deemed To Be University on August 18, 2026, for A System And Method For Root-Zone Acoustic Drought Detection, Irrigation Verification, And Self- Calibration.

Inventors include Dhruv Agarwal; and Mohd. Rehan Ghazi.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to precision irrigation and plant stress monitoring using root-zone acoustics. An Acoustic Emission Sensor Node (10) having a piezoelectric transducer (12) coupled to a waveguide probe detects ultrasonic acoustic-emission events associated with xylem cavitation in a sub-soil root zone, and a Signal- Conditioning Front-End (14) band-pass filters, amplifies, digitises, and extracts an acoustic-emission event train. An On-Node Spiking Neural Network Classifier (20) executed on a neuromorphic or event-driven low-power processor (22) generates a drought-stress severity estimate (24), enabling an Irrigation-Actuation Trigger (40) to initiate or modify irrigation. A Post-Actuation Acoustic Verification and Self-Calibration Module (80), including a Pre/Post-Actuation Event-Rate Comparator (82), Delivery-Fault Detector (84), and Self-Calibration Function (86), verifies delivery by comparing pre- and post-actuation event rates, signals irrigation faults, and adapts decision thresholds. Optional fusion with a bulk soil-moisture sensor (52) provides early warning. Fig. 1 best characterises the invention.
