Abstract: ABSTRACT A SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR RETROFITTING REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS USING AN EPOXY RESIN-BONDED BASALT FIBRE COMPOSITE WRAPPING The invention relates to retrofitting reinforced concrete beams by externally bonding a basalt fibre fabric composite using an epoxy resin– hardener adhesive system . The reinforced concrete beam is pre-treated by mechanical roughening, chemical cleaning, and edge rounding prior to application of an epoxy primer. The basalt fibre composite is fabricated by stacking six layers of 380 g/m² plain weave basalt fabric to achieve a composite coupon thickness of approximately 2.5 mm, which is then cut to suit various wrapping configurations including single bottom layer, double bottom layer, U-wrap with vertical side strips, and full wrap. The method provides enhanced composite action verified by tensile and four-point bending testing, offering an effective approach for reinforcing existing concrete structures.
