MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641112792 A) filed by P. Durga Devi; and Dr. G. Mamatha on September 21, 2026, for A System And Method For Real-Time Turbidity Monitoring Using Remote Sensing And In-Situ Sensors.
Inventors include P. Durga Devi; and Dr. G. Mamatha.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a real-time turbidity monitoring system (100) integrating remote sensing data with in-situ sensing and adaptive edge-based processing. A remote sensing data interface (110) receives spectral reflectance data from an orbital imaging sensor (101), while an in-situ sensing assembly (120) comprising an optical turbidity sensor (121) and a sensor control circuit (122) generates turbidity measurements at the water body. An edge computing device (130) executes a preprocessing unit (140) that derives a normalized difference turbidity index, a data fusion unit (150) that forms a unified dataset, and a prediction engine (160) that generates a refined turbidity estimate through a dual-stage process in which a first learning model (161) produces an initial estimate and a secondary learning model (162) corrects the residual error. An uncertainty evaluation unit (170) computes a confidence score, and an adaptive control unit (180) automatically adjusts the sampling frequency or activation state of the sensor when the confidence score falls below a threshold, enabling continuous, self-correcting, real-time monitoring of lakes, reservoirs, and industrial water bodies.
