Abstract: The present invention is related to a system for converting the audio to animated Indian Sign Language (ISL) gestures in real-time and incorporated into a browser. The entire pipeline is implemented using seven cooperating modules: audio acquisition, speech recognition (off-line), linguistic processing, sign mapping, pose retrieval, gesture interpolation, and rendering the avatar. Fingerspelling falls back are used for words not in the dictionary. The system is completely offline, thus providing low latency, user privacy and real-time access to audio content for deaf and hard of hearing users via ISL.
