MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611098994 A) filed by Swami Rama Himalayan University on August 16, 2026, for A System And Method For Point-Of-Care Identification, Crushing, And Tamper-Proof Disposal Of Biohazardous Vials.

Inventors include Kunal Das; Neel Mani; Nitika Agrawal; Viney Kumar; and Sonu Tomar.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to biomedical waste handling and point-of-care disposal of used pharmaceutical vials. Disclosed is a vertically oriented self-contained system having a vial intake aperture with a fenestrated diaphragm that permits one-way insertion, an intake chamber with a camera and barcode reader unit for pre-destruction identification, and a processing module that performs barcode decoding, image-based secondary identification, risk assessment, disposal route determination, and event logging. After confirmation, a gate interlock releases the vial to a crushing chamber where a motorized crusher mechanism with a perforated crasher plate fractures the vial, while fumes are drawn through an internal exhaust path to a water seal and filtered exhaust. A motorized pusher-scraper transfers fully crushed residue to a secure collection bin. The invention advances the art by integrating tamper resistance, verified identification, contained neutralization, and traceable disposal for hospital and clinical biohazard waste management.
