Abstract: ABSTRACT A SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF DUAL-BRANCH SELECTION COMBINING IN NAKAGAMI-M AND LOG-NORMAL WIRELESS FADING CHANNELS The invention relates to wireless communication channel analysis, and more particularly to a system and method for performance evaluation of dual-branch selection combining in Nakagami-m and log-normal wireless fading channels. A wireless fading channel environment receives a transmitted signal input with fading amplitude and additive white Gaussian noise, and processes branch-wise instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio random variables through a Nakagami-m small-scale fading model block or a log-normal shadowing large-scale fading model block. A variable transformation block from fading amplitude to instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio, together with probability density function derivation block, cumulative distribution function derivation block, moment calculation block, and amount of fading evaluation block, produces closed-form analytical expression set. A selection combiner circuit or decision block monitors first and second branch signal-to-noise ratios, selects the maximum branch, and enables evaluation of mean signal-to-noise ratio after combining and mean signal-to-noise ratio gain, including comparative analysis across multipath fading and shadowing conditions.
