Abstract: Title: A System and Method for Passive Dual-State Machine-Readable Optical Authentication Using Selectively Embedded Photochromic Modules The present invention relates to a passive dual-state optical authentication system (101) and method for secure machine-readable verification. The system comprises a machine- readable optical code having a visible decoy code (102) and an authentic hidden code (103) with different payloads. Photochromic or optically responsive material is selectively positioned at module locations corresponding to differences between the decoy code and the authentic code. Upon exposure to a predetermined illumination source (104), the photochromic modules temporarily alter optical characteristics, thereby modifying the machine-readable geometry of the code and transforming the visible decoy code into the authentic code. A mobile imaging device (105) captures and decodes the transformed code during a temporary activation interval and the decoded payload may be validated through a backend authentication system (108). Following removal of the illumination source, the code reverts to the visible decoy state. The invention operates without embedded electronics, batteries or powered displays and provides enhanced resistance to cloning, counterfeiting, phishing, unauthorized scanning and code-substitution attacks.
