Abstract: A System and Method for Partial Discharge-Based Health Index Framework for Condition Assessment of High Voltage Apparatus A system and method for assessing high-voltage electrical asset insulation health using partial discharge measurements is disclosed. The system acquires online signals using ultra high frequency, high-frequency current transformer, or transient earth voltage sensors during normal energized operation of power transformers, cables, switchgear, and feeders. Acquired signals are conditioned and thirty diagnostic features are extracted across statistical, temporal, spectral, energy, and phase-resolved domains. A global min-max normalization scales the features to a zero-to-one range. A degradation-oriented weighting assigns diagnostic weights to seven primary features based on insulation deterioration significance. A quantitative Health Index is computed as the weighted sum of normalized scores, providing a standardized metric from zero to one representing overall insulation condition. Unsupervised clustering classifies discharge sources into corona, surface, or internal discharge types, and the Health Index is mapped to Healthy, Caution, Warning, and Critical condition bands to generate actionable maintenance recommendations.
