MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611093722 A) filed by Netaji Subhas University Of Technology on August 03, 2026, for A System And Method For Offline Retail Billing And Sku Demand Forecasting.
Inventors include Umer Ashraf; Ajit Kumar; Anurag; Mohd Zubair; Mithilesh Kumar Mahto; and Sanya Anees.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: The invention relates to offline-capable retail point-of-sale and inventory intelligence systems. It provides a hybrid edge-cloud architecture including a portable embedded billing terminal (101) with an ESP32 development board (104), GM861 barcode scanner, and Micro SD card adapter (103) for local transaction capture, battery-backed operation, and transaction caching during network outages, with subsequent synchronization to MongoDB-based cloud storage. A Node.js backend API and Next.js frontend interface communicates through WebSocket-based communication for near real-time cart updates, while BullMQ and/or Kafka queues separate billing from receipt and synchronization workloads. Compared with conventional always-online billing systems, the invention improves billing continuity, portability, and resilient data handling, and further integrates an AI-enabled SKU-level demand forecasting engine that processes store sales history with festivals, weekends, paydays, temperature, humidity, and rainfall to generate demand predictions, reorder dates, and reorder quantities.
