MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441101989 A) filed by Manipal Academy Of Higher Education on June 23, 2025, for A System And Method For Modular Aerodynamic Adaptability In Micro Unmanned Arial Vehicles.

Abstract: The invention provides a modular unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system with interchangeable wings to enhance mission adaptability and aerodynamic performance. The system includes a main fuselage, interchangeable wings, a propulsion system, a stabiliser assembly, a quick-release mechanism, and a payload mounting mechanism. The quick-release mechanism comprises a spring-loaded locking rod, guideway, and neodymium magnet-based alignment system enabling tool-less, rapid, and repeatable attachment of wings. The interchangeable wings include configurations optimized for manoeuvrability and endurance using defined aerodynamic parameters. The system enables rapid reconfiguration of aerodynamic profiles for diverse missions, including reconnaissance, monitoring, and operation under varying conditions. The modular architecture reduces configuration time, improves alignment accuracy, and enhances energy efficiency, thereby eliminating the need for multiple UAV platforms and providing a cost-effective, scalable solution for multi-mission applications.
