MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611061617 A) filed by Dr. B R Ambedkar National Institute Of Technology Jalandhar on May 14, 2026, for A System And Method For Methane Production From Kitchen-Cooked Food Waste Using Biofilm- Supported Freely Moving Biocarriers.

Abstract: The present disclosure proposes a system (100) and method that facilitates anaerobic digestion of kitchen-cooked food waste using biofilm-supported freely moving biocarriers within an anaerobic digestion reactor to improve microbial retention and enhance methane production from kitchen-cooked food waste. The system (100) comprises an anaerobic digestion reactor (102), plurality of biofilm-supported freely moving biocarriers (104), a mixing assembly (106), a feed inlet (108), a biogas outlet (110), and a digestate outlet (112). The system (100) promotes stable anaerobic digestion performance during the processing of kitchen-cooked food waste. The system (100) maintains suitable environmental conditions, which include temperature, pH value, and anaerobic redox conditions for efficient anaerobic digestion of kitchen-cooked food waste. The system (100) enables improved degradation of soluble organic compounds present in kitchen-cooked food waste during anaerobic digestion.
