Inventors include Indhuvadana B; Jeeva Akshaya J; Ragavi P; Vivekanandha College Of Engineering For Women; Ms. C. Visali; Dr. S. Radha; and Mr. B. Goutham.

The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to smart waste management and discloses an integrated IoT-enabled system and method for source-level identification, segregation, monitoring, recycling, upcycling, and composting of municipal waste. Mixed waste is analyzed by a sensing unit comprising moisture, ultrasonic, infrared or proximity, and inductive sensors, optionally with camera-based machine learning, and a microcontroller classifies the waste as wet or dry and actuates a diverter to direct it into a corresponding compartment. Classification data, fill level, timestamps, and operating status are transmitted to a cloud platform for real-time supervision, alerts, and remote management. Wet waste is processed in a monitored composting unit to produce organic fertilizer, while dry waste is routed to recycling and upcycling streams for recovered materials, eco-bricks, and handcrafted products. The invention advances prior systems by providing a closed-loop segregation-to-valorization architecture that improves segregation accuracy, reduces contamination and landfill disposal, and supports circular resource recovery.
